In My Mailbox is a weekly meme hosted by Kristi at The Story Siren where you can talk about the books you bought or received this week.
So this week I got...
Freefall by Mindi Scott
(Amazon / Goodreads)
Goodreads description:
How do you come back from the point of no return?
Seth McCoy was the last person to see his best friend, Isaac, alive, and the first to find him dead. It was just another night, just another party, just another time when Isaac drank too much and passed out on the lawn. Only this time, Isaac didn't wake up. Convinced that his own actions led to his friend's death, Seth is torn between turning his life around . . . or losing himself completely.
Then he meets Rosetta: so beautiful and so different from everything and everyone he's ever known. But Rosetta has secrets of her own, and Seth soon realizes he isn't the only one who needs saving . . .
This book is part of the Contemps Challenge, so of course I'm reading it!
After by Amy Efaw
When Alice was ten, Ray took her away from her family, her friends her life. She learned to give up all power, to endure all pain. She waited for the nightmare to be over.
Now Alice is fifteen and Ray still has her, but he speaks more and more of her death. He does not know it is what she longs for. She does not know he has something more terrifying than death in mind for her.
This is Alice’s story. It is one you have never heard, and one you will never, ever forget.
I recently read Love You Hate You Miss You by Elizabeth Scott (review), and I loved her style of writing. This novel sounds darker, but I hope I'll still enjoy it.

After by Amy Efaw
Goodreads description:
An infant left in the trash to die. A teenage mother who never knew she was pregnant . . . Before That Morning, these were the words most often used to describe straight-A student and star soccer player Devon Davenport: responsible, hardworking, mature. But all that changes when the police find Devon home sick from school as they investigate the case of an abandoned baby. Soon the connection is made—Devon has just given birth; the baby in the trash is hers. After That Morning, there’s only one way to define Devon: attempted murderer.
And yet gifted author Amy Efaw does the impossible— she turns Devon into an empathetic character, a girl who was in such deep denial that she refused to believe she was pregnant. Through airtight writing and fast-paced, gripping storytelling, Ms. Efaw takes the reader on Devon’s unforgettable journey toward clarity, acceptance, and redemption.
The story sounds disturbing and I'm not sure whether I'll be able to relate to the main character, but other readers said thecould, so I'm going to give it a try. Oh, and I love the idea for the cover!

AWESOME stuff this week! After and Freefall were really good, and Living Dead Girl...I reread it just last night. It is a horrifying story, very difficult to read, but an excellent story at the same time. My favorite by Elizabeth Scott and one of my all-time favorite YA novels.
ReplyDeleteI've heard only good things about FREEFALL, so I hope you enjoy it! Great reads this week - enjoy!
