Top Ten Tuesday #32: Favorite Books of 2014

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish with a different topic for a top-ten list each week. You can find out more about it here.

This week's topic is: Top Ten Books of 2014

Here are my ten favorite books I read in 2014, in no particular order:

Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira

This was my first read of 2014, but I still knew it would be on my list of favorites. It touched me in a very personal way, and I had all of the feels. If you're looking for an emotional read, Love Letters to the Dead is definitely the way to go!

Breathe, Annie, Breathe by Miranda Kenneally

All books in Miranda Kenneally's Hundred Oaks series are exceptionally well-done romances, but I think this one might be my new favorite. It's a bit darker than the previous ones, but it's still a romance at heart, and I loved everything about it.

I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

I'll Give You the Sun is too complex for me to even try to explain why it's so great. It took me a while to get through it, but it's worth it - it's just the kind of story you need time to process. In my review I compared it to Jellicoe Road, so I think that pretty much explains it all.

In Honor by Jessi Kirby

I know I'm really late to this party, but I just hadn't gotten around to reading In Honor up until this year, which was obviously a mistake. Jessi Kirby's writing is perfect and exactly what I look for in books.

Torn Away by Jennifer Brown

Jennifer Brown's previous books were only okay for me, but she totally won me over with this one. Torn Away is such a heart-wrenching, honest story, and I loved everything about it.

Dangerous Girls by Abigail Haas

This is another one that I'm way late reading, and I have no idea why I waited so long. Everyone who pushed me to read Dangerous Girls was absolutely right - it's one of the best YA mysteries I've ever read.

Falling Into Place by Amy Zhang

Falling Into Place is written in a really unusual way, in non-chronological order and with a really random narrator, but somehow, it works. The writing is effortlessly beautiful and heart-wrenching, so if you're looking for a moving, more literary read, this one is for you.

Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

I love all of Morgan Matson's books, and I was so happy she wrote a book focused on friendship rather than romance because we need more of those. The characters are amazing, and it's so much fun to read, even during the more serious parts.

Tease by Amanda Maciel

Tease is such a unique concept, and I loved reading the bullying story from the other side. It's tough to read and made me really angry at times, but it's also eye-opening and a really important story to be told.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

I was really late getting on the Rainbow Rowell train, but it was worth it - everyone who fangirled about her (see what I did there?) was absolutely right; her writing is amazing. Fangil is still my favorite of her novels because I connected so much with Cath, and because I was so happy to read a YA book set in college!

What were your favorite books of 2014?

Top Ten Tuesday #30: Authors I've Only Read One Book From But NEED to Read More

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish with a different topic for a top-ten list each week. You can find out more about it here.

This week's topic is: Top Ten Authors I've Only Read One Book From But NEED to Read More

I only have seven for this list, but here goes...

Nina LaCour

Nina LaCour's debut, Hold Still, is one of my all-time favorites; her writing is incredible. And yet, somehow... I still haven't read The Disenchantments or Everything Leads to You. I really need to make that happen.

Justina Chen

I loved Justina Chen's writing in North of Beautiful... but still haven't gotten around to reading any of her other books.

Trish Doller

I remember being completely obsessed with Trish Doller's debut, Something Like Normal - it was one of my most anticipated releases, and it was still better than I'd expected. And Trish Doller is awesome on Twitter, too, so I really should read her sophomore novel. One day...

Libba Bray

The only Libba Bray book I've read is Beauty Queens, which I liked, but which everyone says is her worst one. So I should really read some of her other books...

Natalie Standiford

How to Say Goodbye in Robot spoke to me in a very personal way, and I still think about it to this day. (Which is a big deal, because I usually forget what happened in a book like a week after I finish it.) I really need to read some more of her books, even if they probably won't live up to how much I loved How to Say Goodbye in Robot.

Sarah Mlynowski

Ten Things We Did (And Probably Shouldn't Have) is the only Sara Mlynowski book I've read, but I absolutely loved it; it was hilarious, the perfect feel-good read. I think I need some more Sarah Mlynowski in my life...

Melissa Walker

I loved Melissa Walker's Unbreak My Heart, and I've heard great things about her other books, so I really need to get on that...

Have you read any of these authors' books? Which ones do I NEED to read?

Top Ten Tuesday #29: Books I Really Want to Read But Don't Own Yet

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish with a different topic for a top-ten list each week. You can find out more about it here.

This week's topic is: Top Ten Books I Really Want to Read But Don't Own Yet

1. The Book of Broken Hearts by Sarah Ockler

I loved most of Sarah Ockler's books, and I really want to read The Book of Broken Hearts. (To be honest, the only reason I haven't bought it is the embarrassing cover. But I'll just have to get over that.)

2. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

Let's just get this one out of the way. Obviously I need to buy Isla as soon as possible.

3. Fault Line by Christa Desir

I love Christa Desir's Bleed Like Me, and Christa is awesome on Twitter, so I really need to read her debut.

4. Raw Blue by Kirsty Eagar

I feel like everyone who has read Raw Blue has loved it like no other; I don't think I've read a single bad review for this one. I really really need to get over my only-reading-recent-releases thing and buy Raw Blue.

5. The Disenchantments & Everything Leads to You by Nina LaCour

I'm just going to count these two as one because I couldn't decide which of them to put on the list. I absolutely loved Nina LaCour's debut, Hold Still, but for some reason still haven't read her newer releases. Her writing in Hold Still is amazing, so I really need to get to these.

6. Golden by Jessi Kirby

I loved both Moonglass and In Honor by Jessi Kirby - Jessi Kirby's writing style is just amazing. So of course I need to read her newest release!

7. Where the Stars Still Shine by Trish Doller

Trish Doller's debut, Something Like Normal, is one of my all-time favorites, and I have no idea why I still haven't bought Where the Stars Still Shine.

8. The Museum of Intangible Things by Wendy Wunder

I loved Wendy Wunder's writing in The Probability of Miracles, so I can't wait to read her sophomore novel!

9. White Lines by Jennifer Banash

I love gritty, dark contemporary YAs like this, and I've heard amazing things about White Lines. I'm also kind of obsessed with the cover, and I don't even know why, since it's a very standard YA girl's face cover.

10. Like No Other by Una LaMarche

I recently read Una LaMarche's Five Summers and loved it, so I really need to get my hands on a copy of Like No Other!

Have you read any of these? Which books do I absolutely need to get right away?

Top Ten Tuesday #28: Summer TBR

Top Ten Tuesday is a meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish with a different topic for a top-ten list each week. You can find out more about it here.

This week's topic is: Top Ten Books on My Summer TBR

I decided to split this into two top-five books instead of one top-ten: first the top five summer releases (that I don't have ARCs of) that I'm most excited about, and then the top five books on my actual TBR already that I hope to read this summer. So here goes.

Top Five Summer Releases I'm Excited For

1. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

Let's just get this obvious one out of the way - I'm assuming this one is going to be on pretty much everyone's list. Stephanie Perkins writes amazing contemporary romances, and I can't wait for this one!

2. Random by Tom Leveen

Random sounds chilling and dark and amazing. I absolutely love the idea for this one.

3. In Deep by Terra Elan McVoy

I love Terra Elan McVoy's writing, and this one looks amazing. It sounds a bit darker than her previous books, so I'm excited how In Deep will turn out.

4. Like No Other by Una LaMarche

I loved Una LaMarche's debut, Five Summers, and I can't wait for her sophomore novel! Like No Other sounds like such a unique story.

5. On the Fence by Kasie West

On the Fence sounds like the cutest romance (sort of reminds me of My Life Next Door), and the early reviews have been glowing. I can't wait to read this one!

Top Five Books on My TBR I Need to Get to This Summer

1. Lies We Tell Ourselves by Robin Talley

This is one of the ARCs I got at BEA that I'm most excited about. The idea sounds so, so good. I will be really disappointed if I don't end up lovign this one...

2. Falling Into Place by Amy Zhang

Falling Into Place sounds like exactly the dark kind of contemporary I love, and I've heard great things about it already!

3. Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

I absolutely loved Morgan Matson's previous books, so I'm super excited to read her newest one. And I love when books focus on friendship rather than romance, so Since You've Been Gone sounds perfect for me.

4. I'll Give You the Sun by Jandy Nelson

Jandy Nelson's debut, The Sky Is Everywhere, is one of my all-time favorites, so I'm so happy she finally has a new book coming out! This one sounds amazing as well.

5. Life by Committee by Corey Ann Haydu

I recently read Corey Ann Haydu's OCD Love Story, and I loved it! Life by Committee sounds just as intriguing, and I've heard great things!

What books are you most excited this summer?

This week's topic is: Top Ten Spring Releases I'm Most Excited For

1. Since You've Been Gone by Morgan Matson

I loved both of Morgan Matson's previous novels, so I'm obviously excited for her newest release. I love stories that focus on friendship, and this one seems to have some mystery too, so Since You've Been Gone sounds right up my alley!

2. #scandal by Sarah Ockler

I'm a huge fan of Sarah Ockler and can't wait for another book from her! #scandal sounds like so much drama and fun.

3. What I Thought Was True by Huntley Fitzpatrick

Like everyone else, I absolutely loved Huntley Fitzpatrick's debut, My Life Next Door, and this one sounds like another great contemporary romance!

4. To All The Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

I love Jenny Han, and To All The Boys I've Loved Before sounds like another cute and entertaining story!

5. Lies My Girlfriend Told Me by Julie Anne Peters

Lies My Girlfriend Told Me sounds so good - grief, intrigues, deception, and drama. The look on the cover model's face is downright scary. I can't wait to read it!

6. The Summer I Wasn't Me by Jessica Verdi

I absolutely loved Jessica Verdi's debut, My Life After Now, and her sophomore novel sounds great! Kind of like a book version of But I'm a Cheerleader. Can't wait to read it!

7. Isla and the Happily Ever After by Stephanie Perkins

I feel like this one is going to be on everyone's list this Tuesday - everyone (me included) loved Anna and Lola, and we've been waiting for Isla forever!

8. The Museum of Intangible Things by Wendy Wunder

I'm a sucker for road trip books, and The Museum of Intangible Things sounds like another great one!

9. There Will Come a Time by Carrie Arcos

I loved Carrie Arcos's debut, Out of Reach, and There Will Come a Time sounds just as great! I love stories about grief and romance like this one. Also, that cover...

10. Life by Committee by Corey Ann Haydu

I still haven't read Corey Ann Haydu's debut (even though I have it on my TBR), but Life by Committee sounds amazing. I just love the idea for this one!

What spring releases are you most excited for?

This week's topic is: Top Ten Book 2014 Releases I'm Dying to Read

1. The Summer I Wasn't Me by Jessica Verdi

I absolutely loved Jessica Verdi's debut, My Life After Now, so I can't wait to read her sophomore novel!

Another author whose sophomore novel I'm dying to read - My Life Next Door was amazing, so I'm really looking forward to What I Thought Was True.

3. To All the Boys I've Loved Before by Jenny Han

Jenny Han's contemporary romances are so good, and I can't wait to read another one!

4. Maybe One Day by Melissa Kantor

I haven't read anything by this author, but Maybe One Day sounds right up my alley - I love when YA books focus on friendship instead of romance!

5. The Edge of Falling by Rebecca Serle

The Edge of Falling sounds crazy and unique. And it's written by the author of When You Were Mine, so of course I'm reading it!

6. See Jane Runby Hannah Jayne

See Jane Run is one of my most anticipated 2014 debuts. I love when YA contemporaries incorporate mystery and family stories, and See Jane Run just sounds so good!

7. Being Sloane Jacobs by Lauren E. Morrill

Being Sloane Jacobs sounds just as adorable as her debut, Meant to Be!

8. The Museum of Intangible Things by Wendy Wunder

Road trip. Friendship. Family issues. The author of The Probability of Miracles. What more could I possibly want?

9. Side Effects May Vary by Julie Murphy

I love the idea for this one! There's a million books about cancer and bucket lists, but I haven't read anything on what happens if you don't end up dying and need to face the consequences of doing the crazy stuff that's on your bucket list. Can't wait to read this one!

10. The Geography of Me and You by Jennifer E. Smith

Jennifer E. Smith's novels are always cute and fun, and I can't wait to read her newest one!
