My New Treasures is a weekly feature here at Paperback Treasures to showcase all the books I received over the previous week. I do not take credit for this idea.
No vlog this week because I didn't get any physical books - not that that's a bad thing, after last week's huge haul. I got one ebook from NetGalley, though:
What books did you get this week?
I like a slow week once in a while. It makes me feel like I might be able to catch up on my reading someday. My new books posts are at Inside of a Dog and Ms. Martin Teaches Media. Happy reading!
ReplyDeleteShort and simple- I like it! Sometimes it's just great to have a smaller haul once in a while, since we all already have so many books to read! Skinny looks really great, I may actually end up requesting that one, even though I already have SO many books from NetGalley already that I need to read! It's like an addiction. I need a support group to help me stop requesting! ;)
ReplyDeleteI hope you end up enjoying Skinny, Hannah! <3
Haha, someone needs to start NetGalley Addicts Anonymous - I would totally join, too :D
DeleteThat's probably a great issue book!:)
ReplyDeleteI love that it tackles obesity instead of anorexia or bulimia which is the usual disorder in books. and I love how it combines this issue with her talent - and the new methods available to tackle obesity. That too hasn't been done before - great idea:)
Yes! There's so many books about eating disorders, but we only ever get to see the one side of it, so I'm excited to see where this one will go! :)
DeleteThey psychology in this kind of eating disorder is so different, because instead of being envied like really thin girls are, she has to deal with her mental health problem and everyone else's sneers and bullying. It's not only about her health but also about how everyone else views her - great theme:)
DeleteHow healthy is it that she falls back on her talent! I love that part of it:) But also how sad that she has to change herself in order to succeed in music - she should only want to lose weight to help her health, with nothing else factoring in, but society has pushed everything else on her too, excluded her despite her talent. This one will be so good, hope you review it before it releases:)
Yes! I'm very interested in seeing how the author will handle that type of eating disorder.
DeleteI'm nto sure about the singing thing, though. I'm afraid it might get too cheesy. But we'll see :)
I don't know - the music might be a huge part of her healing. I know it can be very competitive - have you read Virtuosity? It's a YA but in the competitive world of classical musicians. It will be interesting to see if that kind of competitiveness will help or hinder her eating disorder.
DeleteYeah, it might be handled well, but it could also get cliched - like, the girl loses weight and then suddenly she's confident and can sing on stage, that kind of thing. I don't know, we'll see :)
DeleteI have read Virtuosity, and I really liked it!
I've seen this around and i'm suddely interested in it since i last saw it. I have been looking into dark, secretive books. looking forward to the review!
ReplyDeleteHappy reading! =D
Here is my HAUL!
Arr. Didn't Scholastic accept request only from US bloggers on Netgalley? Hoooooooooooow? :< This publisher has amazing issues books. Did you read Purge by Sarah Littman?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I kind of cheated... I'm moving to the US in a few weeks, so I put my new address in my NetGalley profile. I guess it's sort of lying, but I'll be in the US once I review the book, so it doesn't feel *too* wrong.
DeleteI haven't read Purge yet, but I have it on my wishlist :)
Lucky bastard! :< Are you moving there like...Forever?
DeleteREAD IT! It's amazing. It's real.
Hehe. I'm going there for college, so four years. Don't know whether I'm staying there or coming back to Germany or what after that! :D
DeleteYes, I've heard it's great! Really need to get my hands on a copy :)
I haven't heard of Skinny before but I'm so glad I did today. It sounds like it could be a very emotional read.
ReplyDeleteSkinny looks intriguing. Hope you enjoy it!:))
