Follow Friday #9

Follow Friday is a weekly feature hosted by Parajunkee's View. Each week, one blogger is featured, and this week it's Lesley at My Keeper Shelf!

It also asks a different question each week. This week's question is: Do you judge a book by it's cover?

Yes! I love book covers. I wouldn't base my decision of whether or not to read a book only on the cover, but it does influence my decision. After all, covers are what catches your eyes in the first place. If I'm at a bookstore, library, or on a bookish website, the cover is what determines whether or not I'll read its plot description. So if I don't like the cover, it doesn't really matter how great the book itself is, because I'm not even going to read what the book is about to see whether I'm interested.
Leave your answers or links in the comments!

  1. I do the same thing that you do. If the cover doesn't appeal to me, most of them time I don't give it a second glance and keep browsing for one that I do like.

  3. The cover catches the eye but the synopsis captures the interest!

  4. I'm the same! The cover helps my decision making. I've also kicked myself for not reading a book sooner because I didn't like the cover. I'm already a follower. My FF is at Coffee Table Reviews

  5. I definitely don't buy by the cover. I've read many books where the cover was "Blah" and the books was amazing. I depend most on the synopsis--I like spoilers.

  6. It matters more to me in person than online where I can see ratings and reviews right alongside it. But I agree an unattractive cover won't get me to pick it up to read the blurb to see if I might even like it.

  7. I think we can all agree that even the most beautiful book cover can't sell a book if the writing's not there. Book cover art may, at best, help steer me in the book's direction (especially if I'm in a book store) but it's not going to hypnotize me into buying it right then and there.

I expound on all the marketing qualities of a good book. Just follow me back to my book blog -

  9. Hi there! A late hopper and new follower for this nice blog! :)

I also judge covers! Sad but true. Although I never buy books only for the cover, but the description and storyline are what decides it. The cover can tip the scale in a books favour though!
