Follow Friday is a weekly feature hosted by Parajunkee's View. Each week, one blogger is featured, and this week it's Lesley at My Keeper Shelf!
It also asks a different question each week. This week's question is: Do you judge a book by it's cover?
Yes! I love book covers. I wouldn't base my decision of whether or not to read a book only on the cover, but it does influence my decision. After all, covers are what catches your eyes in the first place. If I'm at a bookstore, library, or on a bookish website, the cover is what determines whether or not I'll read its plot description. So if I don't like the cover, it doesn't really matter how great the book itself is, because I'm not even going to read what the book is about to see whether I'm interested.

I do the same thing that you do. If the cover doesn't appeal to me, most of them time I don't give it a second glance and keep browsing for one that I do like.

The cover catches the eye but the synopsis captures the interest!

I'm the same! The cover helps my decision making. I've also kicked myself for not reading a book sooner because I didn't like the cover. I'm already a follower. My FF is at Coffee Table Reviews
ReplyDeleteI definitely don't buy by the cover. I've read many books where the cover was "Blah" and the books was amazing. I depend most on the synopsis--I like spoilers.

It matters more to me in person than online where I can see ratings and reviews right alongside it. But I agree an unattractive cover won't get me to pick it up to read the blurb to see if I might even like it.

I think we can all agree that even the most beautiful book cover can't sell a book if the writing's not there. Book cover art may, at best, help steer me in the book's direction (especially if I'm in a book store) but it's not going to hypnotize me into buying it right then and there.
ReplyDeleteI expound on all the marketing qualities of a good book. Just follow me back to my book blog - http://www.howardsherman.net

Hi there! A late hopper and new follower for this nice blog! :)
ReplyDeleteI also judge covers! Sad but true. Although I never buy books only for the cover, but the description and storyline are what decides it. The cover can tip the scale in a books favour though!
