Judging Books By Their Covers #3: Roads & Cars

Judging Books by Their Covers is a feature I do every once in a while to showcase some book covers. Each post, I choose one category and some book covers that fit into that category, and talk about whether or not I like those covers. You can read some earlier posts in this feature here.

The links will take you to the Goodreads pages.

Today's category is: roads and cars!

You Are Here by Jennifer E. Smith
Breaking Beautiful by Jennifer Shaw Wolf

In Honor by Jessi Kirby
The Lonely Hearts Club by Elizabeth Eulberg

The Princesses of Iowa by M. Molly Backes
Flirting In Italian by Lauren Henderson

Out of Reach by Carrie Jones
Two-Way Street by Lauren Barnholdt

Rules of Attraction by Simone Elkeles
Amy & Roger's Epic Detour by Morgan Matson

I'm not so sure of what I think of book covers with roads and cars. I usually like the actual book, since this cover trend goes hand in hand with the road trip trend, which I'm a huge fan of, but just the cover... I don't know. I don't really like the covers for Two-Way Street, Flirting in Italian, and The Princesses of Iowa - these covers are kind of boring, in my opinion. I love the covers for Out of Reach (stark and eye-catching) and You Are Here (simply beautiful), though, so this kind of cover can go either way with me.

What do you think of book covers featuring roads and cars? Which cover is your favorite?

  1. GORGEOUS!!!!!! You know how much I dig road trips especially their covers! This is your post that I truly truly truly heart. :D

I kind of agree with you. The covers of Flirting in Italian, and The Princesses of Iowa are not so appealing to me. But I like the cover of Two-Way Street. I don't know. It's kind of cute. Alright, I have a weird taste! HAHA.

I love road trip stories and of course, their pretty covers. I love the cover of You Are Here the most. It's just so refreshing for my eyes. It's really cute and pretty. :)

I'd love to see a post of this with a couple kissing. :D

  2. Did you read my mind or something!? I have a post about covers with people kissing and hugging scheduled for next month! :)

  3. I love the cover for Flirting In Italian... mostly because I've always wanted a scooter, and how can you not love that little guy? It's so shiny and purple! The cover for The Princess of Iowa reminds me of those photos I used to take like that when I was a teenager, which is awesome. I'd pick that up in a bookstore, even with the fields.

I love the design for You Are Here, and Breaking Beautiful is really interesting. I think the only one I really don't like is Two-Way Street, but that might actually be because I've read that book, and I hate it so much that hearing the authors name makes me cringe sometimes.

  4. Whoa! That sounds like some serious hate! I thought that book was okay, didn't love it and didn't hate it.

  5. I really like the cover for Out of Reach as it seems to say something about the book...I haven't read it, but I would imagine it to deal with a lot of harder emotions.

  6. It's probably over the top. There are just a lot of things in that book that rubbed me the wrong way. It's too bad, because the author is from where I grew up.

  7. Oh I love the cover for Two-Way Street! Especially because the car wraps around to the back and the guy's there too:)

Breaking Beautiful is thematically important, and I love the color with the shoes, and Rules of Attraction is awesome! I love the story and I love how both characters are car geeks.

  8. I love the cover for Amy and Roger's Epic Detour. Plus, the story is amazing. Probably my favorite road trip book ever.

A cover with a road that is kind of odd, Take Me There by Carolee Dean. Slightly random, can't tell if I like it or not.

  10. I love road trip books! It's probably one of my favourite (sub?)genres, particularly in young adult novels. Of the covers here, I like The Princesses of Iowa, but I especially love the cover for You Are Here, such great colours. The cover of Amy & Roger is different to the one I had, but I like this one a lot more!

  13. Oh I kind of love these. It helps that I like some of the books. Like Two Way Street and the Lonely Hearts Club, though that one feels different - I wonder how many covers are inspired by the Beatles? Or TITLES?

I found your blog from goodreads! Following now! I just started blogging recently, but I think we have similar taste!

  14. I love the cover of In Honor and Flirting in Italian ( which is so cute! and I think would relate well to the story, it's so fluffy and light). Out of Reach is very eye-catching. I don't particularly like Rule of Attraction ( too tacky), You are Here ( border - why? ugh) and Lonely Hearts Club ( the colours don't work together and that bugs me! Great book though!).

Breaking Beautiful is intriguing and different but maybe a little too plain. It fits with the story ( or so I heard) but I think I would like to see a face or something instead of just shoes... :)
