Guest Post by Alissa Grosso & Giveaway (Ferocity Summer Blog Tour)

Today we have Alissa Grosso here for a guest post! This post is part of the road trip themed Ferocity Summer blog tour, which you can find out all about here
Travel with Friends

This is the final stop on my Blog Tour Road Trip to promote my new book Ferocity Summer, which is now available. Don't forget to read to the end of this post to find out how you can enter a drawing for your very own summer survival pack, which includes a signed copy of Ferocity Summer.

I've been lucky enough to go on this virtual road trip with some friends around the blogosphere. Some are folks who are real life friends. Some I've been lucky enough to meet in person. Others are friends who I've never met except in the virtual sense of the word. Being able to make this journey with friends has definitely made the ride more fun.

In my day job, I do a lot of traveling. For the most part I make these trips on my own. It can get a bit monotonous and lonely. Sometimes, for the bigger trips or the overnight ones, I bring my dog with me. He's a pretty good travel companion. He doesn't complain about my taste in music, but he's also pretty useless when it comes to reading maps.

My other "job", the reason I'm here today is the business of writing and promoting my books. Although it's possible to do this solo, I've found that taking some friends along for the ride makes things a lot more fun. Last year, when my first novel, Popular, came out, I was lucky enough to be part of the wonderful Class of 2K11. Even though we have "graduated" our group has remained close, and I am so thankful to have such a wonderful group of friends with whom I can share my writing news both good and bad.

I've done some solo book signings, but I've done a lot more group book signings. Why? Because group book signings are more fun and less lonely. Another great group I'm lucky to be part of is the KidLit Authors Club made up of local children's and YA writers who love to get together for book signings and other events.

On a recent cold and gloomy Saturday, I drove down to Stone Harbor, NJ with Charlotte Bennardo where we met Nancy Viau and Elisa Ludwig for a book signing at Stone Harbor Books. It was chilly and a bit damp, which didn't help draw the crowds, but surrounded by such sunny personalities we all had a good time.

What's the moral of this story? If you're planning a road trip be it real or virtual, consider bringing along a friend or two. It's sure to make your journey more fun.

Ferocity Summer by Alissa Grosso
(Amazon | Goodreads)

It’s the hottest summer on record in New Jersey and soon Scilla Davis must stand trial for her involvement in a deadly speedboat accident. With the possibility of conviction looming, life seems empty, unreal, and utterly hopeless. Watching her best friend Willow destroy herself with drugs and booze is especially painful. Yet Scilla can’t manage to wrest Willow—or herself—from a path of self-destruction. With a new drug called Ferocity sweeping the nation, an FBI agent is eager to make a bust. He offers Scilla a way out of this nightmare. But is she willing to betray her own drugdealing boyfriend?

  1. Alissa Grosso sounds such a fun person to be with. I love her day job. She gets to travel all the time? Sure, it's fun. But I agree with her that it tends to get lonely when she's alone. I'm happy that when she's in an overnight travel, she has the company of her dog! Great bonding moment. ;) Also, I think she's right that group book signings is better than solo book signings. Of course, I love the moral that she said. As a lover of road trips (travelling), I agree that it'd be real fun with the company of friends, may it be virtual or real!
Thanks for this giveaway, Alissa. :) Good luck on your books!

  3. I agree that group signings are more fun, even as a member of the audience! I love how authors discuss writing together, and crack jokes and I love how there's this great vibe.

  7.  I couldn't agree with you more, things are a lot easier with a few friends along for the ride. In high school and afterward, I was always with a friend or two no matter the situation. But now, a decade later and we've all scattered to different areas of the globe. I miss the camaraderie. Thanks for the giveaway!

  8. I would love to go road tripping with my friends. We actually plan to after we graduate. A nice long road trip down the east coast of Australia filled with boys, music and just having fun! I love going on class trips and camps because it's like having all your friends without the fuss of parents! Can't wait for camp this year ;)

  14. I remember seeing this book on another blog and thought it sounded really good.  Confession: I have never been to a book signing but it's on my bucket list.  It's so hard when most are during the day when I'm working, but I've always wanted to see what they're like and meet some awesome authors.  Looks like Alissa had a good time at hers!
